Roll Call

Tree nuts

The twelve tree nuts the FDA lists as major food allergens, matched by species: almond, Brazil nut, cashew, hazelnut, macadamia, pecan, pine nut, pistachio, and the walnuts. Since 2025 the FDA no longer counts coconut or shea as tree nuts — each has its own family here. A leaf, bark or flower ingredient from a nut tree is flagged "may be".

Defined by US FDA tree nut list (Food Allergen guidance, Edition 5, 2025). Every ingredient in our registry that the source names is included automatically, and each says why below.

116 ingredients in this family, and 71 that may be.

These can come from the source, or not, and a label doesn’t say which — or the name is a blend that doesn’t say which part of the plant was used. Watching the family flags them as “may be”.
