Why it’s used

What the evidence says
There is little to no rigorous clinical trial evidence in humans evaluating betaine hydrochloride supplementation for digestive symptoms or stomach acid levels. Its use rests largely on physiological reasoning and anecdotal reports rather than controlled studies, so it is not possible to say from the available evidence whether it produces the intended effect.
