Why it’s used
Taken as part of proteolytic enzyme blends intended to support protein digestion or, in some formulations, marketed for post-exercise recovery or minor swelling.
What the evidence says
Chymotrypsin is well characterized as a digestive enzyme in its natural role, but oral supplementation faces the basic problem that stomach acid and other digestive enzymes can break it down before it acts as intended. Clinical evidence for oral chymotrypsin supplements producing a meaningful effect in healthy people is very limited.
