A yellow-orange carotenoid pigment found in fruits such as citrus, papaya, and persimmon. It is one of the carotenoids the body can convert into vitamin A.
Why it’s used
Taken as an antioxidant and a dietary source of provitamin A, sometimes marketed for bone or general health support.
What the evidence says
Observational studies link higher dietary beta-cryptoxanthin intake to various health markers, but these associations do not establish that a supplement form causes any benefit. Interventional trials in humans are scarce, and NIH's Office of Dietary Supplements does not maintain a dedicated fact sheet for it.
