A red seaweed traditionally eaten as a food, particularly in coastal Ireland and Atlantic Canada. In supplements it appears dried and ground, and is a natural source of iodine and trace minerals.

Why it’s used

Taken as a whole-food source of iodine and other minerals, or included in sea-vegetable blends.

What the evidence says

Dulse has not been the subject of dedicated clinical trials as a supplement ingredient. What is known comes mainly from nutrient-composition analyses of the seaweed as a food, not studies of a supplement dose or effect.
