An oil pressed from the seeds of the hemp plant, containing a mix of polyunsaturated fats including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. It is distinct from CBD or hemp extract products, as hemp seed oil contains negligible cannabinoids.
Why it’s used
Taken as a source of dietary fatty acids, similar in concept to flaxseed or other plant oils.
What the evidence says
Evidence specific to hemp seed oil as a supplement is limited; most of what is known about its fatty acid content comes from nutritional analysis rather than clinical outcome trials. General evidence for omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids supporting cardiovascular and inflammatory markers comes largely from other sources like fish oil, and does not automatically transfer to hemp oil's particular fatty acid ratio.
