A naturally occurring compound found in beans, grains, seeds, and nuts, made of a sugar (inositol) bound to six phosphate groups. It is sold as an isolated supplement, often alongside inositol itself.
Why it’s used
Taken by some for its antioxidant properties or as a mineral-binding agent, with interest historically tied to laboratory research on cell growth.
What the evidence says
There is no NIH ODS fact sheet for IP-6, and mainstream human clinical evidence for the effects marketed alongside it is thin and largely limited to small or preliminary studies. Too little well-controlled human research exists to say whether oral supplementation produces the effects claimed.
