Lactobacillus brevis is a species of lactic acid bacteria found naturally in fermented foods and in the human gut and mouth. Supplement forms are cultured and freeze-dried, then measured in colony-forming units (CFU) rather than by weight.

NIH's Office of Dietary Supplements notes that probiotic effects are strain-specific, meaning results with one Lactobacillus brevis strain do not necessarily apply to another. Some small trials have looked at particular L. brevis strains for oral health markers or gut symptoms, but the overall body of human evidence is limited in size and consistency, and CFU counts rather than mass are used to describe dosing.
