Why it’s used
Taken by some to support urinary tract comfort, based on the idea that it can interfere with certain bacteria's ability to stick to the bladder wall.

A Cochrane systematic review of D-mannose for preventing and treating urinary tract infections found the existing trials to be few, small, and of low certainty, concluding that it is not yet possible to say with confidence whether D-mannose reduces infection recurrence or symptoms.
Context
Trials reviewed used varying daily amounts and durations, and the review authors specifically flagged inconsistent study quality as a barrier to drawing firm conclusions.
