Peptidase is a general term for enzymes that break peptide bonds, cutting proteins into smaller peptides and amino acids; supplement versions are usually derived from fungal, bacterial, or plant sources.
Why it’s used
Included in digestive-enzyme blends on the idea that it may assist the breakdown of dietary protein in the gut.
What the evidence says
There is little rigorous human trial evidence specifically on supplemental peptidase for digestion or any other outcome; the body already produces its own protein-digesting enzymes, and added peptidase's contribution is not well characterized.
