An oil extracted from squid, containing omega-3 fatty acids, notably a higher proportion of DHA relative to EPA than most fish oils.
Why it’s used
Taken as a marine omega-3 source, for the same general reasons people take fish oil: cardiovascular and cognitive support.
What the evidence says
The broader evidence base for marine omega-3 fatty acids (largely from fish oil) supports effects on blood triglycerides, per NIH ODS. Clinical trials conducted specifically on squid oil are limited, so how well that general omega-3 evidence carries over to this particular source is not well established.
Context
Most human trial data behind omega-3 fatty acid effects come from fish oil rather than squid oil specifically, and dosing protocols in the literature are not squid-oil-specific.
