A plant sterol structurally related to cholesterol, found naturally in soybeans and other plants.

Why it’s used

Taken by some for a possible role in supporting healthy cholesterol levels, similar to other plant sterols.

What the evidence says

Plant sterols as a class have some evidence for modestly lowering LDL cholesterol at gram-level intakes, but most of that research concerns sitosterol and campesterol rather than stigmasterol specifically. Dedicated human evidence for stigmasterol alone is thin.

Context

Where plant sterol blends have been studied for cholesterol effects, doses have generally been in the low grams per day range, but stigmasterol has rarely been isolated and tested on its own.

Insufficient dataToo little has been studied to say either way.
