A dried, powdered extract made from the thymus gland of cattle or other animals, sold as a "glandular" supplement.

Why it’s used

Taken by some to support immune function, based on the traditional idea that consuming an animal organ supports the corresponding organ in the body.

What the evidence says

There is no NIH ODS fact sheet on thymus glandulars, and no well-designed human trials show that oral thymus extract changes immune function. Proteins from any dietary source are broken down into amino acids during digestion, which complicates the underlying premise of glandular supplementation.
